How Did Nail Polish Develop?

Personally, I love nail polish very much as it makes my nails and hands attractive and perfect. I have never imagined that nail polish has been invented for thousands of year. It is also a luxury privileged to the royal and noble families. Luckily, nail polish has become popular and inexpensive now that most women can afford. Otherwise, we will just lose an important part of our beauty experience.

In the past, Indian people use red nail polish mainly in wedding. Red is also popular for ancient Roman. Ancient Roman women used rouge as nail polish to color their nails. In Peru, Incan painted eagles on their nails for special events.

In ancient Egypt, nail color was a signature of social status. Red was the color for royal family members only and ordinary people were only allowed to use lighter colors. Nail technicians used Henna, a flower and blood to make the nail polish more long lasting. It is believed that red color was the favorite for Cleopatra VII Philopator.

Around 1045BC, Chinese people in the Zhou Dynasty started to concern nail beauty. They did not use nail polish at that time but long false nails. As these long false nails were made of gold, silver, gem stones and jewelries, they were mainly worn by the queens only. Chinese people developed their first nail polish from flowers, egg white and wax in Ming Dynasty and red was their most popular color.

The first public nail polish was launched by one of the beauty product brands, Revlon in 1920. Inspired by car painting, A French makeup artist named Michelle Menard invented the first commercial nail polish. Unfortunately, this first nail polish was found with toxic chemicals and such formula was later improved.
