The juicer is found in many kitchens today. The product is advertised as a great way to prepare healthy drinks. It is true that the juicer can create healthy drinks; the reality of course is that the juicer has to be used by the person who wants the healthy drink.
The juicing machine is easy to use, it is simple to operate for the most part, but it does not work itself. For instance to prepare let us say a vegetable and fruit drink, the ingredients might include carrots, celery, and apple.
The carrots should be peeled in order to take off the dirt and other residue that should not be part of the drink. The celery should be cleaned thoroughly as well. The apple needs to be washed but not peeled. The apple needs to be cut in half of quarters depending on the size of the device so it will fit in the slot.
The items are then run through the machine and out comes the juice. The drink should be used immediately to avoid spoilage. The nutrients evaporate quickly because it is a natural product that is affected by oxygen. If you cut an apple and leave it sitting, you will see that it quickly becomes brown. The juice suffers the same effect.
This particular vegetable and fruit combination is actually quite tasty. Now that the drink is gone, it is time to clean up the preparation area and the machine. This can take anywhere from five to ten minutes. The machine disassembles into various parts such as the basket, food shredder, and other necessary components. All should be washed and rinsed. Most parts can be cleaned in a dishwasher.
There is also the left over pulp that has to be addressed. The more efficient devices leave less pulp and extract more juice. But in any case there is pulp left over. It would be wasteful to simply throw out the pulp.
Some save the pulp in the freezer and use it in soup stock or in healthy desserts. There are many ways to use the pulp and many cooks find various ways to use the pulp rather than simply throwing it away.
Once the machine is cleaned, the pulp stored, and the food preparation area is clean, the juicing process is in essence done, until the next time a person wants to drink a healthy vegetable or fruit juice. The process can be time consuming one. But good health does not come easy.
There are those who would rather buy a fruit or vegetable canned drink from the store. These are the products promoted as health drinks, compared of course to soda pop. Perhaps compared to soda, these canned drinks are healthy, relatively.
But the store bought canned drinks are loaded with sodium and man made chemicals for shelf life preservation. There is no comparison between a canned drink and one that can be prepared by juicing at home. The store bought product is convenient, but the person who wants health should use the juicing device at home. It require an investment of time and trouble, but is worth it in the long run.
