I’m sure you know some of the many benefits of exercising. Reduced stress, better sleep, a slimmer body, but how do you get started? If you walk into any bookshop, you can find countless topics on the idea of weight loss and exercise, so it can be confusing how to get started. In this article you’ll learn a few basic steps to help you ease into a workout program that is right for you, so that you can enjoy all the benefits.
When you will exercise should be your first consideration. Eventually, you’ll be spending some time every day with your new habit, so choose a time where you can set aside an hour or so. Of course, at first you won’t be spending an entire hour, but just think about which hour out of the day you can set aside for exercising. The two most popular choices are first thing in the morning, or right after work. Either can provide either a great way to start your day, or a great way to end it.
Now you’ve got the time figured out, it’s time to start thinking about what you are going to do. One way is to think back to whenever you did physical activity before, and choose something that you enjoyed doing. Some prefer to run outside, others prefer to use machines indoors. If you have any positive memories regarding either of these activities, then that’s a great place to start.
Now you’ve got to get stated. Beware of the common mistake of starting off like gangbusters, and hitting the gym for three hours your first day. This rarely works, as there’s no way you can go form not working out at all, and suddenly working out like you are training for the Olympics. A much better strategy is to start off very slow, and very small. The key is to do something now that is easy to do, and you won’t have a problem doing every day. Just let it naturally expand as time goes on, and you’ll find yourself working out like a tri athlete in no time.
If you happen to have children, then they can be a great motivator to get yourself in shape. If you’ve ever tried to follow your kids around on a playground, then you know what I mean. Watching kids play can be a great way to get motivated to workout yourself. If you don’t have any children, then consider volunteering for some little league teams in your area. Most are always looking for coaches, assistant coaches, and officials to help out. This can be a great way to rediscover your youth.
Exercising is one of the best things you can do to stay young, feel energized, defeat stress, and get back into shape. The trick is to start slow, and let it naturally grow into something that will deliver countless benefits over your lifetime.
