Many people who try to lose weight make diet mistakes that hamper their lose weight diets. To lose weight is not a simple undertaking. And, when your weight scale does not reflect your efforts, you may feel defeated to the point of abandoning the whole idea of losing weight.
The purpose of this article is to show you some of the common mistakes you may be making. See if any of them apply to you. Avoid them and chances are that your weight loss diets will start working and you will lose weight.
1. Lack of food variety. No one, whether dieting or not, can tolerate the same meals over and over. In time, such monotony will lead you to crave the foods you loved to eat. Eventually you will succumb to your cravings and fail to adhere to your diet plan. This, of course will cause you to either gain weight or be unable to lose weight. Disillusioned with your lackluster results you may eventually give up on your desire to lose weight.
2. Going all out. Many people believe that when they start something they must give it the fullest effort. That is a good belief. Unfortunately, many dieters go over – board. They clean out their cupboards and fridge of “undesirable” foods. They throw out the foods they love and ones that may be tempting them to cheat. This is one of the worst diet mistakes. During your diet you will miss some of your foods. What is even more difficult is your thought that you will never be able to have these foods. The outcome is that you will be running out to the store, picking up the container of ice cream and eating it at one sitting. When you leave some of the foods you love (within reason) in your house, just the mere fact that they are there will satisfy you and help you overcome your cravings.
3. Not consuming enough food. Under normal circumstances the caloric intake is 2000 calories and 2500 calories per day for a moderately active average female and male, respectively. For weight loss, a suggested calorie reduction is about 500 calories per day. Of course, check with your health care practitioner before you start any diet. Reducing your food intake by more than the recommended amount may cause you health issues.
In life, we learn from our mistakes and try to avoid them in the future. And so we learn from our diet mistakes. When we accept them, acknowledge them and correct them, our goal of permanent weight loss will be within reach.
