What Are The Causes Of Acne On Thighs?

It’s the curse of adolescent and teenage boys and girls but it’s also the bane of an estimated 20% of adults. Unfortunately, we are talking about acne, which are swollen, tender and inflamed pimples, lumps or nodules on the skin. In severe cases, these firm swellings can become inflamed until such time that an infection sets in and you now have cystic acne.

It’s a shame, but lots of teenaged girls and boys will find that they get acne. Up to 20 percent of adults get slammed with acne as well. Sadly, adults can come down with new acne, with its swelling, and tender, sore pimples. They are otherwise known as nodules and lumps of the skin. In really bad cases, these bumps will become swollen with infection. This is known as cystic acne.

Acne isn’t just confined to the face. Acne can develop anywhere on the body where hair forms. To this end, it can form on the shoulders, the back, and the arms. Again, they can form anywhere on the skin where hair grows. They are a pain on the skin, and to the person who finds that they’ve developed them. So it makes sense then that acne can and will form on the thighs. It’s true. It will show up on the thighs for the same reasons that a pimple would form on any other body part.

Raging Hormones

Hormones are a very prominent reason for teenagers getting acne. Hormones are spiking and raging at incredible rates in teenagers. Also, hormone production will make sebum. Sebum triggers moisture on the skin.

Well, it was because your hormones – androgen, to be exact, in both boys and girls – were produced at an unprecedented pace during puberty. In turn, androgen pushed the levels of testosterone higher, which signaled the body to produce more sebum. Your hormones may have been unbalanced by the use of either birth control pills for women or steroids for men engaged in bodybuilding.

The way that sebum works, is that it’s a wax that builds up in the skin to help it keep its moisture. When this sebum gets trapped in the hair follicles, then the skin will form things like blackheads and whiteheads. When these bumps become swollen, then you will find acne, and it can happen when you are an adult.

Bad Bacteria

If these bumps become infected with bacteria, the area will swell up. These harmful bacterias will feed off the sebum to grow. The bacteria is usually there, but a person with pimples have an overgrowth of the harmful bacteria.

With the overgrowth of bacteria, then the skin will secrete fluids from underneath the skin. These secretions flow out of the top of the raised and swollen skin.

You may not see the process at the cellular level but the results will soon become obvious. Your skin on the thighs breaks out in the characteristic of acne – pimples, papules and pustules quickly become apparent. And there goes the flawless skin on your thighs giving way to an outbreak of acne and in your adulthood, to boot.

So, don’t think that the thigh acne is being caused by chocolates or other foods. The main causes are from hormonal changes or an overgrowth of bad bacteria. Sometimes you just might be genetically predisposed to getting them. There’s no need for alarm; you can address this issue.
