What I Did To Lose 50lbs

My name is George and welcome to my blog. I wanted to let you know how I lost almost 50 Lbs and kept it off. And the good thing is it didn’t cost anything. I thought if I just used common sense I could do all the same things the famous weight plans use. And I was able to do this pretty easily.

If you just use common sense, stick to one real, honest plan, keep at it and don’t give up, any one can lose the weight they want to. One fact I do know for sure. If you want to lose weight AND keep it off, you must lose the weight slowly over time. The fast weight loss fad diets do not work for the long term. Losing weight and keeping it off permanently is an eating style change, not just a diet to lose weight.

Before I go any further let me tell you a little about myself. I’m not a doctor, nutrition specialist, dietician, diet guru, weight trainer or any other person in the medical or diet field. What I am is a guy with a degree in Finance and Accounting that has always worked in that field. And I want to just share what worked for me. Also, I don’t like to spend money that I don’t have to. I’m not cheap, I just don’t like to waste money.

I went to the doctor in Feb 2009 for a cold I couldn’t shake off and I weighed 196 lbs. One Hundred Ninety Six Pounds!. I’m only 5′ 6″ tall. So I decided to really try to lose some weight but wanted to do it my own way. I found some height to weight charts on line and they all said I should weigh anywhere from 145 to 155. So I set my goal to 155.

Yesterday I weighed 146.6. Yes you see it correctly. No typo. Two years later I lost 50 lbs. (49.4). I will eventually post my excel spreadsheet with dates and weight. And I didn’t spend one nickel on any special program or diet. I made up my own diet from stuff I read; saw on the internet, looked into and common sense. I did find one program that I mimicked and didn’t even know it. More on that on my website.

First, I figured that if I was fat and wanted to lose fat then logically I wanted to reduce my fat calories. Seeing all the commercials for Subway, I looked at their nutrition pages on their web site. I decided that everyday for lunch I was going to have a 6″ white, turkey sandwich, lettuce, tomato, mustard and NO mayo (I don’t like mayo anyways). Surprisingly it didn’t bother me to have the same thing everyday. Sometimes I would cheat a little and have a ham and turkey. Now there were some days that I had to go out to lunch other than subway but I tried to limit it. I stayed on this plan for roughly a year. I would say out of the whole week I stayed on my lunch plan 4 out of 5 days.

Second, I don’t like to eat breakfast. But not only was my eating style totally messed up, so is my sleep pattern. I am always up in the morning by 3am (usually go to bed about 9). So when I leave for work to me its almost lunchtime. Time to go to fast food drive thru and get a sausage and egg biscuit with about 500 calories and 300 fat calories. No more. I started having a bowl of Special K with 2% milk. I have about 2 cups. And never the plain Special K. Has to the yogurt or strawberries Special K.

Third, my biggest downfall was snacks after dinner. I started to gradually decrease the cookies and little cakes until my after dinner snack was yogurt or a small bowl of Special K. Speaking of dinner. What I did here was not try to change what we cooked for dinner but limit the amount I ate. My wife is a very good cook and try’s new recipes out. I did convince her that some things I was really not going to eat much of any more, like potatoes, pasta and bread with dinner.

So, after 2 years I met my goal. I cheated a little here and there but i did get to where I wanted to be. With a good plan and some determination you can reach your goal too. Thanks for reading my story and you can visit my new website at www.loseweightgetinshape.net for some other things I did to help me reach my goal. Thanks again and good luck in your weight loss quest.
