In case you did not already know, what we generally refer to as ‘yeast infections’ are really just an overgrowth of Candida albicans which then proceeds to attack our body and wreck havoc (so to speak!). Frankly speaking, this Candida albicans really is not much to be afraid at all, and in fact it is present in our body on a regular basis and does some very important functions. Truth be told, it is really not harmful at all, until and unless our immune system is actually weak enough that it is unable to contain it.
When your immune system is weak, you are automatically at risk when it comes to infections, and yeast infections are certainly not exempt from that rule. Remember, it is not just the immune system that protects you from infections – there are other factors involved too that each perform a role in ensuring that your body remains infection free. When these are compromised, you will find yourself facing a lot of trouble.
Our skin is known as our body’s ‘first line of defense’. It is a powerful barrier that protects our internal body from harm and prevents harmful substances that could cause infections. Unfortunately, if this first line of defense is breached by something that could be as small as a scratch – you will find yourself at risk of an infection.
Other than that, there is our direct immune system that includes antibodies, and helper bacteria which generally deal with threats. Both of these can work together with our blood cells to rid your body of Candida albicans, and so you normally need not have to worry in the slightest. However, should your immune system be affected by anything at all, then you will realize that it may not be performing its task up to the mark!
Naturally, your general state of health is going to affect all of this too. People who lead healthy lifestyles, eat healthy diets, and generally keep themselves in a good condition tend to be better prepared to handle the threat of infections. On the other hand, if you are leading a sedentary lifestyle and have a diet that leaves much to be desired, your body is certainly not going to be in any shape to fight an infection.
As you probably would expect, consuming substances like alcohol, and smoking cigarettes, certainly is not going to help your cause.
If you are worried about possibly ending up with a yeast infection, then the best thing that you can do is ensure that your immune system is up to par and your body is as fit and healthy as possible. Do so, and your risk of actually having a yeast infection will be extremely low.
